Farmers Speak Out About Elk Damage to Skagit County Farms

Farmer Complaints are overwhelming

February 6 – It’s getting worse

February 8 – I have never seen such a large band so near my house in broad daylight.

February 10 – The animals who exhibit this hoof disease in our area are left to suffer until they die.

February 14 – We cannot afford the fertilizer and a diminished hay crop to feed this band of the state’s elk.

February 15 – I fear someone is going to get hurt if the elk aren’t removed or more severely reduced.

February 15 #2 – The ecosystem they should be part of has been destroyed, and this leaves them no alternative

February 15 #3 – We need a solution.

February 19 – WSU had to euthanize all their elk in the study.

February 22 – Every DFW effort to control elk damages to crops and farms for the past ten years has failed

February 28 – This intrusion goes on all year.

March 2 – causing immediate and long term future damage that will never be assessed by crop adjusters

March 3 – This situation is getting out of control.    It is time for an open and honest discussion about a remedy.

March 3 #2 – With great frustration, I need to inform you, again, of the elk band feeding and mucking up the soil in my hay field

March 6 – I continue to wait for a plan from WDFW to compensate me for my damages
