Written statement: This bill will start charging people 2.5 cents per mile for driving their vehicle. It starts out with electric and hybrid vehicles, but will eventually include internal combustion vehicles. The money will go to funding the state’s transportation fund. This will give the government the opportunity to put a GPS and tracking device in your car but they say they want to maintain privacy for the vehicle owner. Drivers may also be asked to submit periodic odometer mileage. This state has the 8th highest state gas tax in the nation (49.4 cents/gallon). The state also has more than a $10 billion surplus right now. Is there any reason to find another way to tax the citizens of this state?
